Macrame bracelets - coverHey DIYers,

Remember the summers you spent tying macrame bracelets? We turned back the hands of time and gave this technique a new lease of life!

In case your memory is failing, here is a reminder of how to create those summer bracelets…

Macrame bracelets - materialWhat you need:

  • 4 meters (4.3 yards) of Chinese knotting cord;
  • a ring;
  • a needle with a large eye;
  • scissors.

Macrame bracelets - step 101. Divide the Chinese knotting cord into:

  • 2 x 75cm (30 inches);
  • 2 x 50cm (20 inches);
  • 1 x 25cm (10 inches).

Then fix the 50cm long threads to the ring (we will call those threads “the bases”).

Macrame bracelets - step 2 - the nod02. Start knotting! Take one 75cm long thread and place it horizontally below the base. Pass the right end above the base and below the left side. Then pass the left side below the base and the right side where they both cross. Tighten.
Start again but on the other side. Pass the left side above the base and below the right side. Then pass the right side below the base and the right side where they both cross. Thighten.

Macrame bracelets - step 303. Keep alternate the right and the left sides. Consistency is the key!

Macrame bracelets - step 404. To end the first half of the bracelet, pass the right end in the eye of the needle. Pass the needle behind two or three lines of knots at the back of the bracelet. Do the same with the left end.
Tip: Make sure to pass only the ends. Keep the base out of the knots.

Macrame bracelets - step 505. Cut the extra part of cord. Then start again steps 2 to 4 on the other side of the bracelet.

Macrame bracelets - step 606. Once both sides are knotted, place one end on the top of the other and use an extra cord to fix them together.

Macrame bracelets - step 807. Use the 25cm long thread to tie a few knots. It will form the sliding system to open and close the bracelet. Then remove the rest of cord you used to temporarily fix.

Macrame bracelets - step 908. Tie a knot in the threads then cut right after the knots.
